Reading an writing have not always been one of my fortes. When I was in high school I was so negative about going to english class. I always had the same thought before I walked in the classroom. "Why do I need english too succeed in life? Is learning about Romeo & Juliet really going to help me put food on the table for my family?" With all this negativity going on one day during senior year, i had a breakthrough. My teacher assigned our final research paper. he told us to pick a contraversial topic. I started searching around and decided to write my paper on the fast food industry in the United States. To me, it was very easy to write because, information was very easy to access about this topic. i got information from my friends who eat alot of fast food. I even went to local fast food places and asked employees about the food they make for the U.S. I got information about the ingredients used to make the food. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. It made me take a liking to english class. I am looking forward to this semester. i like that we can choose our own themes to write about!
What we'll be doing this semester will definitely be more like your fast food research paper and less like Romeo and Juliet! I'm hoping to help convince everyone that writing *is* important in most workplaces these days (and it can be rewarding and fun as well, though I'll never claim it's easy). I'm excited to see how the "pick your own theme" idea works as well, so glad to get your positive feedback, at least as we start out...
